Version 3.5 :: Web Tool Upgrades (5/1/2010)

As of Monday, May 2, 2011 you will see and experience the following updates and improvements to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool:

New Features

  • POST Drawings - "Other Orgs" are now able to add Community Colleges to their list of affiliated schools:
Organizations such as ESD's and other State Agencies can now create and manage POST Drawings for their affiliated community colleges, as well as area high schools as before. This opens up the POST Views feature for these "Other Orgs" to create Views of programs at their area colleges.
  • POST Drawings - Now rendering HTML in table cells:
A WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor has been added to the POST Drawings Course Content editing box. This now allows users to customize content formatting such as bold, bullet lists, multiple hyperlinks, and spell checking for every table cell.
Read more here: POST Drawings TOOLS Orientation
  • POST Drawings - Changes to "Configure Rows & Tables":
This feature now allows users to preview changes to their POST Drawing table structure before they are saved. Users can now choose to "save" or "cancel" changes before returning to the drawing. The new custom row titles feature is also active here, so be sure to check that out as well!
Read more here: Configure Rows & Columns
  • POST Drawings - Custom row titles:
Community College and High School users can now add custom row titles to their POST Drawings! Hover over blank rows (they will highlight yellow) to open a pop-up window to assign a new row title.
Read more here: Custom Row Titles
  • POST Views - Print feature improvements:
When printing a PDF of a POST View you will now see a "Printed on [date & time stamp]" at the bottom of the printed tables. When printing from a browser (not clicking on the PDF link) the browser will add a footer with the POST View title and appropriate page number to every page.
Read more here: What Happens When Printing a POST View?
  • Roadmaps & POSTs - Print to PDF file name enhancement:
When downloading a PDF to print of a Roadmap or POST Drawing, the file name will now read 'Organization Name - Drawing Title - Version #.pdf'. POST Views will only identify 'Organization Name - POST View Title.pdf'.
Read more here: How Can I Find My PDF After it Downloads?
  • User Permissions - Adding users at affiliated High Schools:
"Organization Administrator" and "Webmaster" users can now add/edit user accounts for their affiliated high schools. If you have one of these user levels you no longer need to go through the HelpDesk or "Guest" account to add a user to the Web Tool.

Bug Fixes

  • Drawing Lists - added "Reset" button to keyword search:
Clears keyword search box, but maintains previous filter box selections.
  • Drawing Lists & Version Settings "Actions" - icon glitch repaired:
Repaired glitch with the "draw/edit" action icon which was causing confusion as to whether drawings were locked or still unpublished for editing.
  • POST Drawings - fixed additional window/tab glitch:
Repaired glitch that was causing an additional blank window/tab to open up when attempting to edit POST Drawing table content.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to implement these changes.

Upcoming Features

Requests that did not make it into the above list are still in development, and will be completed in the near future. Here is a list of those pending requests:

  • POST Drawings - Copy content between drawings:
Add ability to copy the contents of a cell from one drawing and paste into another drawing.
  • POST Views - Add a "Copy this View" feature:
This will allow users to copy existing POST Views (layout and content) within their own organization, as they do not have access to explore Views created by other organizations at this time.
  • Reporting Feature:
Potential useful for grant reporting, this feature would pull usage data, such as how many times a published Roadmap or POST View is viewed on an external website. Open for additional suggestions on desired reporting features and results.

For detailed step-by-step instructions on all Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool features, please refer to our online Tutorials.

Version 3.4 :: Web Tool Upgrades (11/5/2010)

As of Friday, November 5, 2010 you will see and experience the following updates and improvements to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool:

New Features

  • Roadmap Drawings, POST Views & POST Drawings - Print to PDF:
From the Drawing Properties page for Roadmaps and POST Drawings, as well as POST Views, you can now download automatically generated PDF documents of your published drawings! You also have access to a URL link that you can put on your website for viewers to download the same document. This PDF link will always generate a PDF of the most currently published version, rendered identical to your embedded drawings or published HTML link.
Read more here: Print To PDF
  • Improved External Links to OLMIS & MyPathCareers.org:
We are able to track links to embedded Roadmap Drawings and POST Views when you place the embed code (found in your Drawing Properties page) in your website.
SAMPLE CODE
 <div id="pathwaysContainer" style="width:100%; height:600px"></div>
 <script type="text/javascript"
 src="http://oregon.ctepathways.org/c/published/609/embed.js"></script>
If the Web Tool detects an external link we are able to share that link with outside resources such as OLMIS and MyPathCareers.org, to direct outside traffic to your community college pathways websites! The improvements to this feature are in determining which link we share. If we detect multiple links (listed under "Embed Views" in your Drawing Properties page), you can now choose which external link you want as the "primary" URL. Or, you can simply copy and paste your preferred URL in the External Link field and save your changes.
Read more here: How to Edit an External Link
  • POST Views & POST Drawings - Printing Legend Symbols:
Legend symbols are now drawn in an image tag instead of as a background image. This makes them print by default. End viewers are no longer dependent on enabling "print background images" with their browsers print settings to print correctly.

Bug Fixes

  • Published Roadmap Drawings - Links to OLMIS:
OLMIS uses two different domains for their full occupational reports. This has been causing a conflict in registering some links for published roadmaps since some users copy the second link format show below (olmis.emp.state.or.us). The Web Tool was original setup to only recognize the first domain shown below (qualityinfo.org). With this fix the Web Tool now supports both domains.
Read more here: Using the Correct OLMIS Links
  • POST Drawings - High School Headers:
Added ability to hit enter on keyboard to save changes to High School POST Drawings column headings.
  • User Account Profile:
Added the users Organization name to the user profile page, and corrected the drawings list display to reverse the order of versions keeping the most current version at the top of the list.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to implement these changes.

Upcoming Features

Requests that did not make it into the above list are still in development, and will be completed in the near future. Here is a list of those pending requests:

  • POST Drawings - Bug Fix:
Fix additional browser window/tab that is opening when attempting to edit content.
  • Roadmap & POST Drawing List - Bug Fix:
Fix minor defects in filter box function and results.
  • POST Drawings - Preview Rows & Columns Configuration Table:
Allow for a preview of table layout changes before saving the changes to the drawing. A new "Save" or "Cancel" button will be added before returning to the active POST Drawing.
  • POST Drawings - Alternative Row Titles:
Add capacity to select from pre-determined alternative row titles
  • Current row titles default to "1st Year Fall", "2nd Year Fall", "Electives", "Prereq", blank, etc.
  • We will be adding an approved list of alternative row titles for users to choose from, such as "Term 1", "Term 2", etc., "Gen Ed", "Required", and "Core Req"
  • If you have feedback on additional row titles that you would like considered, please submit your suggestions to helpdesk@ctepathways.org for review.
  • User Permissions:
"Org Admin" and "Webmaster" users will be given the capability of adding and editing/managing users for their affiliated high schools.
  • Affiliations:
"Other Orgs" (such as Lane ESD) will be able to add specific Community Colleges to their list of "Affiliations" so that they can create POST Views using their local community college's POST Drawings.

Version 3.3 :: Web Tool Upgrades (7/1/2010)

As of Thursday, July 1, 2010 you will see and experience the following updates and improvements to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool:

Bug Fixes

Thank you to everyone who has reported technical issues with the Web Tool. For new software we are fortunate that most of these issues have been minor in the grand scheme of things!

Roadmap & POST Drawing Lists

  • Occupations/Programs filter boxes now function properly when program names are selected. New improvements include a "loading" graphics display while the drawing list is generating after filter selections are made, and the ability to click "show all" from the organizations filter box to change selection of organizations.
  • Words typed in to the keyword search field are now retained so that when a user leaves and returns to the drawing list they do not have to re-do their search query.

Feature Requests

We thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to implement your requests, and we welcome your additional feedback regarding these issues, or new requests. Please email us at helpdesk@ctepathways.org.

Roadmap & POST Drawing Lists

  • Drawing versions are now listed in reverse (descending) order so that the most recent version is at the top of the list, and more easily accessible.

Roadmap Drawings

  • Drawing Canvas Print Frame is now a part of the drawing canvas during Roadmap development. Visible in "draft" mode only, these non-printable gray borders provide a visual guide for fitting your design to a printer friendly portrait print layout. Please note: these are only guides! Always use the Print this Version tool feature to review your work for desired print layout.'
  • Color Palettes have been updated to include "white (#ffffff)" as a standard color selection for all organizations. Some users have been using this color to creating floating box effects in their drawings.
  • Drawing Properties pages now provide an External Link reference based on where an individual Roadmap is embedded. If an external link is detected for your organization, this link will be used by OLIMS to direct traffic to your Roadmaps and organization website (instead of viewing Roadmaps off of the Web Tool server). This External Link feature can be found directly under the embed code of published drawings.
  • Drawing Properties pages now provide a list of Embed Views (at the bottom of the page) as a reference to how many sites are embedding a particular Roadmap, and how many views it has received since being embedded.

POST Drawings

  • POST Drawings now offer an optional row header notes field (similar to the existing footer row) at the top of POST drawing tables where general program notes and external hyperlinks can be added. Both the "header notes" and "footer notes" rows can be included (displayed or hidden) by checkbox toggle in the configure rows & cols feature, however the footer row is displayed by default.
  • AP - Advanced Placement has been added as a new POST Legend Symbol option.

Upcoming Features

Our design committee is meeting in July to review pending feature requests and prioritize development for the coming 2010-2011 development year. We will get back to you on approved requests and our timeline for development.

Tutorial revisions specific to this upgrade are available here:

Version 3.2 :: Web Tool Upgrades (3/23/2010)

As of Tuesday, March 23, 2010 you will see and experience the following updates and improvements to the Career Pathways Roadmap Web Tool:

Bug Fixes

Thank you to everyone who has reported technical issues with the Web Tool. For new software we are fortunate that most of these issues have been minor in the grand scheme of things!

POST Drawings

  • Drawing List - Organization filter boxes now correctly displays "Show All High Schools" and "Show All Community Colleges".
  • Drawing List - High School users will now see drawings listed for Community Colleges and Organizations that they are affiliated with when clicking "Affiliated Drawings".
  • Drawing List - version "Notes" field is now clearing properly. Notes written for any version, in the version settings page, will be displayed in the drawing list. Users can edit or clear notes that no longer apply to a specific version.
  • Content hyperlinks now open in a new window, by default.

Roadmaps Drawings

  • Drawing List - version "Notes" field is now clearing properly. Notes written for any version, in the version settings page, will be displayed in the drawing list. Users can edit or clear notes that no longer apply to a specific version.
  • Copying Drawings - Removed secondary copy confirmation window/prompt. Redundant step.

Feature Requests

  • Roadmaps - Edit Color Palette: Organization Administrators and Webmasters can now update colors used in existing roadmaps by replacing an existing color with a new color. This feature is found in "Organization Colors" on the side bar, but should be used with discretion!
  • Roadmaps & POST - "Unpublish" Drawings: You now have the ability to "unpublish" drawings! Ideal for test drawings, drawings that users don't want made public on OLIMS, or programs that are no longer being offered, but should not be deleted. How? From the TOOLS menu on the drawing canvas, click "unpublish this version".
  • Community College POST Drawings - Course Credits: A new field has been added to the content editor for listing the number of course credits. Credits will appear in parenthesis in the table, for example "(3)".

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your patience as we have worked hard to implement these changes.

Upcoming Features

Requests that did not make it into the above list are still in development, and will be completed by June 2010. Here is a list of those pending requests:

  • Roadmaps - Drawing Canvas Print Frame: Adding a non-printable printing guide (or frame) on the drawing canvas grid to assist users in design layout for optimal printing.
  • Roadmap & POST Drawings Lists - Retain Keyword Search Results: Retain keyword search text so that when a user returns to the drawing list they do not have to re-enter their search query.
  • OLMIS Occupational Reports - Links: Updating OLMIS to link directly to roadmaps on college web pages instead of linking to Web Tool. Keeps viewers on "branded" community college web pages, where their roadmaps are being embedded.
  • POST - Additional Legend Symbols: Adding "AP" for Advanced Placement. We are not implementing course specific descriptions at this time.
  • POST - Community College Header Field: Similar to the footer, except to be added to the top of the table underneath the college name, before the Prerequisites row. This is to allow community college users to add notes, a brief introductory or description, to a Community College POST drawing before the course information is listed.

We welcome your additional feedback regarding these issues, or new requests. Please email our Technical Support team at helpdesk@ctepathways.org.

Version 3.1 :: Major Web Tool Upgrades (6/21/2009)

The Roadmap Drawings feature of the Web Tool received major feature upgrades Sunday, June 21, 2009. POST Drawings features were not affected by this upgrade.

Introduction

This upgrade is different than other upgrades with new features and bug fixes. Here's why. As Oregon's unemployment rate has risen and the number of job seekers has exploded, the need for occupational information has expanded as well. In order to assist job seekers across the state, leaders at our Employment Dept. and Worksource Oregon centers expressed an interest in being able to see Career Pathways Roadmaps by occupational area and not have to search every community college website to find a specific program. To do this, we are now linking all published Career Pathways Roadmaps on the Occupational Report in OLMIS.

When a job seeker or staff person goes into an Occupational report on OLMIS at the top of the page will be a link for "Career Pathways Roadmaps". When the user clicks on this link, a list of links of all of the available community college roadmaps will be listed.

Benefits

Your community college roadmaps will now be available on OLMIS giving job seekers around the state the opportunity to learn about your program. The added benefit to you is that prospective students browsing careers options on the OLMIS website will now be able to link to roadmaps for the community colleges offering degree and certification programs in their field of interest.

Changes You'll See

  • Standardized roadmap drawing titles. This has been done to help avoid typographical errors and maintain consistency in the roadmap titles, following the list of approved career and technical education programs in the Oregon Community College Viewbook. For instance, we have seen variations in how roadmaps have been named for the EMT program, such as EMT Emergency Tech, Emergency Med Technician, and Emergency Med Technology.
  • In this upgrade, where applicable, we have matched roadmaps to the list of Approved Career & Technical Education Program in the Community College Viewbook. The roadmaps are also now also sorted by Oregon Skill Set.
  • We recognize that many of your roadmaps are not yet listed in this approved program list, or you may title your program something other than the approved program name. Don't worry! If your program fits into an approved program category, you can continue to specify an alternate title, which will be used as the roadmap title, like before. If no alternate title is provided, the approved program name will be used instead. And if your program is "not listed" in the approved program name list, you can use the alternate title to state your program name like before. It's that simple!
  • In addition, through the Drawing Properties screen for your published roadmaps, you can now add OMLIS links by either searching your roadmap for URLs you may have added to OLMIS occupational report pages, or by manually adding OMLIS URLs. A simple click on a checkbox next to the desired occupation listing will allow that roadmap to be publicly accessible on the OLMIS website for that occupation.
  • NOTE: the folks at OLMIS and the Oregon Employment Department are currently finishing up the programming on their end. As soon as that is tested and ready to release, you will get an email letting you know how roadmaps will be displayed.

How You Can Help

As with any new change, there may be glitches, and we encourage your to check over your roadmaps to ensure the titles look the way you want. And as always, we welcome your input and feedback. Please email our Technical Support team at helpdesk@ctepathways.org.

Tutorial revisions specific to this upgrade are for Roadmap Drawings only:

General Features

  • A new HELP link has been added to the Web Tool navigation; users can submit help requests through a form on the Web Tool instead of outside email services.
  • Edit Users now enables Webmasters and School Admin to add job titles and phone numbers for users within their schools. Phone numbers are displayed in the Edit Users list to ease contacting Web Tool users.
  • School addresses are now displayed under school names in the Edit Users list for quick reference.

Drawing List Features

  • By default, when you log in, the drawing list displays drawings the logged in user is associated with. The drawing list has been improved to remember selection changes users make in the drawing list filters for “Schools”, “Users”, and “Titles”.
  • A link for my drawings has been added above the drawing list to restore default settings for the logged in user.

Drawing Features

  • For all users, copy this version has advanced features and is now operated through a pop-up window. Do you have a drawing that you want to use as a template for other roadmaps? Then this feature is for you!
    • For drawings at your school, you can create:
      • A New Version, to the existing drawing, or
      • A New Drawing, which copies the existing drawing into an identical new drawing at your school; provide a new* drawing name before hitting “OK”.
    • For drawings at other schools, you can create:
      • A New Drawing at your school, and provide a new* drawing name before hitting “OK”.

Note

If no new drawing name is provided, the original drawing name is used and the word “copy” is appended to the new drawing name by default.

Version 1.0 :: Updates to the Career Pathways Web Tool (1/18/2008)

The Web Tool was down Friday, January 18, 2008 for maintenance and new feature upgrades. Now that our updates are complete, we hope you take time to explore and enjoy using these new features:

New Features

  • A new user level of Webmaster has been created to manage school colors. You can work directly with the assigned Webmaster on your campus to customize your schools roadmap color choices.“School Admin” users have this permission as well.
  • Webmasters will also have access to Embedding Instructions that provide examples and resources to embed and customize published roadmaps.
  • “School Admin” and “Webmaster” users now have the ability to delete users that are not associated to drawings in the system.

Drawing List Features

  • Keyword Search has been added. You can search for drawing titles, keywords in drawing content, and user names.
  • A new drawing list interface allows you to view and sort the drawings list by all “Schools”, through a “show all” feature, or by selecting one or multiple schools at a time. This feature applies to “Users” and drawing “Titles” as well. By default, the logged in user’s school and user name will be selected from these filters - the results of the drawings list showing only drawings associated with the logged in user.
  • Click on drawing titles to edit the drawing title, view thumbnails and detailed information on drawing versions, such as monitor who created and modified each version, enter “draw” mode or “preview” each version, and “copy this version”.

Drawing Features

  • The drawing header with drawing title has been reduced, and now identifies the associated school.

Note

Existing drawings were not affected by these updates. Basic lines and arrows will still function the same. We encourage you to try out these new features by going back in to your drawings, deleting arrow objects and using these new dynamic connections. Play with the “start point”, “end point” and “segment” features to take full advantage of what these new tools can offer you.
